Wil A. Sumner, B.S., M.S.
Experience
I have 29 years experience of providing
testing, consulting, and certification services to Agriculture,
Food Processing and Retail Food Industry. My career has provided
me with substantial knowledge of state & federal pesticide
laws (Federal Insecticide Fungicide, & Rodenticide Act)
, Food & Drug laws (Food Drug & Cosmetic Act, FD&C
Act) dealing with chemical and microbiological adulteration
of foods. I am familiar with current regulations on the
operation of chemical and microbiological testing labs pertaining
to pesticide residue analysis, monitoring technology of chemicals,
toxicology, pathogen testing, all dealing with agricultural
production.
Due to the increasing number of new pesticides and formulations
our task is to also design new testing protocols and sampling
methods, to expedite the testing services yet all within the
bounds of ISO 17025. I also conduct risk assessment models for
pesticide residues and other chemical contaminates in foods
for submission to EPA, POP.
Our risk assessment work is and
has been used for the National Academy of Sciences in their
assessment of pesticide residues in foods. We also work with
international organizations for the development of pesticide
risk models for the World Health Organization, Nicaragua Ministry
of Health, Guatemala Dept of Agriculture, Honduras Research
Institute, Health & Welfare Canada, and Taiwan National
Toxics Lab.
I am a former federal food scientist with training in FDA Law
as an expert witness. I have served on cases involving
pesticide (fumigant) exposure to humans, adulteration of crops
to pesticides due to drift, adulteration of produce and processed
foods with pathogens, adulteration of foods and produce with
heavy metals, adulteration of foods due to lack of process controls,
adulteration of foods due to chemicals in distribution, etc.
